February 2nd, 2024 Update

The weather is against us again for this Sunday's Early Bird Training Series event. We regretfully have to cancel the event and have no reschedule date. Looking forward to more favorable weather as the season progresses.

January 19th, 2024 Updates

Flyers are now available for Cantua Creek, Pine Flat, Copper Valley, Snelling (back to the old course!) and Merced!

Unfortunately the Early Bird Training Series scheduled to take place this Sunday (1/21) has been cancelled due to rain forecast. While the rain may not be heavy, it will be all day. Standing around for the clinics and debriefs will not be pleasant, and the training races could be dangerous for new riders. Riders will automatically be entered in the following week's event Jan 28. Sorry.

Introducing the Shea Center Criterium Sunday Sept 24 on the Livermore Early Birds course., for the Junior Championships, the Master 60-64,65-69 and 70+ Championships, and two beginner groups as well (Cat 4/5 and Women 3/4/5).

September 5th, 2023 Update

I know many of you were looking forward to the return of the Winters Road Race, but permit problems have delayed the race to 2024.We have decided to move the Henleyville Road Race to the Sept 10 date, as the last road race of the year. It is up on BikeReg at www.bikereg.com/henleyville-road-race and is open to online registration through Thursday evening (11:59 p.m.). Day of entry will also be accepted. We will hold the race no matter how many riders enter; we are tired of cancelations - though we may combine a few start groups. Bring your friends (and as always,we could use some help as registrars, feeders and marshals. Send an email to velopro1@gmail if you'd like to help out.)

Those having already entered the Winters race can switch over their entries to Henleyville by sending us an email (again, velopro1@gmail.com); those not doing so by Thursday evening will receive a refund.

August 31st, 2023 Update

The Winters Road Race has run into problems with Solano County (but it sounds like we can do it in 2024!), so we have to cancel it for this year. We are working to get Henleyville Road Race to take its place on Sept 10 (or Sept 23 as an alternate) The USAC permit for Henleyville is already approved, we are waiting on Tehama County.  We are working with BikeReg to allow riders to switch from Winters to Henleyville, or get a refund.  Again, my apologies; it has been a bad year for us and you, our riders.

August 24th, 2023 Update

Athlone, Giro, and Oakland are open on BikeReg.  Winters is already open for Sept 10. Henleyville Sept 23 will follow, and will happen if we get enough riders this year.

August 15th, 2023 Update

August 5, 2023 Update

The San Ardo and University Road Races will be up on BikeReg by Monday. Suisun will not be taking place this year - construction problems. Dunnigan may be held in September; we are working through some challenges there. Winters is planned for August 27 (but construction here as well may be a problem). Athlone, Giro and Oakland look to be going ahead as planned. Henleyville may happen, but may move to a different date due to Dunnigan's move.

August 3, 2023 Update

Due to only fifteen registered riders, the Warnerville Time Trial will be cancelled for this year. We are hoping to have enough riders for the Athlone Time Trial on September 2nd (it's the Championships this year, sign up early!).

As for the rest of our season:

Patterson Pass will happen as scheduled.

Suisun Harbor will not be on August 13; we are working on a later date (currently considering September 24th).

Dunnigan Hills will not be on August 12; we may be able to reschedule in September.

All other Velo Promo races in August and September up to and including Oakland look okay.

Henleyville may move to a week earlier, but we'll be finalizing that in the coming weeks.

 

Thank you all for your patience as we grapple with small field sizes and increased costs. We want to bring you the best races we can and support the NorCal Racing Community.

All neutral support vehicles at Velo Promo races will have to be covered on the USAC 's insurance, which means we have to send in the relevant information to USAC and pay the fees at least a week before the race, preferably earlier. If you want to be neutral support, we must have the following information (and the Chief Ref must approve you as well):

Driver's full name

Driver's license #

Driver's D.O.B.

Auto license, year make and model

Auto VIN

Insurance Company

Insurance limits

Insurance policy dates

We welcome neutral support vehicles, driven by experienced support drivers, and insured through the USAC's non-hired insurance program for everyone's safety and support.

Sponsorship Call-out
Individuals have always supported Velo Promo races; now it’s time to get companies and corporations involved. We need to raise money via sponsorships for many of our most popular races. Everyone in the sport is or knows someone in a company to approach to get them involved in sponsorship of a category, or a race, or a series of Velo Promo races in Northern California.
All we are asking is to get the names and contacts of the right (and ideally interested) people to contact in Northern California companies. Many of you have enjoyed Velo Promo races for years, and we like to think we’ve added something to the sport in this area. We’ve had several entities this year join in (Hammer Nutrition, Performance Bicycles, Jakroo, Bicycle Law, 1200 Lakeshore, and Dolce Vita Cycling--Thank you!) , but we need several more if we are to continue our program of races.
